small, elegant renaissance church constructed between 1485-1513
by Francesco di Giorgio Martini. Not far, 15 minutes walk, there
is also the Tanella di Pitagora,
Etruscan hypogeum surrounded by cypress trees.
Northward can be found the XVIth century Palazzone which was
once the residence of a Cortonese cardinal, who then enriched it
with works of art by Signorelli and Papacello. Today it is owned
by the High School of Pisa.
After a fairly steep climb up one of the most characteristic
hills in the area, a solitary church is found at the peak called
Sepoltaglia, an 11th century quaint church immersed amongst
green cypress trees, within is conserved
a miraculous image of the Madonna.

church in its original structure, the crypt within is of great
