Walks
Eastward, to the Madonna del Calcinaio(1,5 km) there is a small, elegant renaissance church constructed between 1485-1513 by Francesco di Giorgio Martini. Not far, 15 minutes walk, there is also the Tanella di Pitagora, Etruscan hypogeum surrounded by cypress trees.

Northward can be found the XVIth century Palazzone which was once the residence of a Cortonese cardinal, who then enriched it with works of art by Signorelli and Papacello. Today it is owned by the High School of Pisa.

After a fairly steep climb up one of the most characteristic hills in the area, a solitary church is found at the peak called Sepoltaglia, an 11th century quaint church immersed amongst green cypress trees, within is conserved
a miraculous image of the Madonna.

Excursions
Southeastward, Benedettine Abbey of Farneta is a 9th century church in its original structure, the crypt within is of great historical interest. Collections of various archeological and paleontological finds, together with other artefacts,
can be found in the Sacristy.

Northeastward, the Convent of Cells (Convento delle Celle) founded by Saint Francis between 1211-1221, the saint's cell can be found here.
The adjacent small church was built in 1573.

Southward, you can find Passignano sul Trasimeno, an interesting village
situated on the northern banks of lake Trasimeno. Day trips from Passignano
to the picturesque Maggiore island are a must. The island boasts a characteristic fishing village, with houses deriving from 400 b.c.., the Roman church
of Salvatore (XIIth century), (interesting frescoes can be found within),
and within walking distance among cypress and olive trees you will arrive
at the small church of Saint Micheal Archangel (300 b.c..).
Taking the boat back towards Passignano, a stop over at Polvese island gives
us the opportunity to see the remains of an antique monastery from Roman ages.

Southward also is Montepulciano, a small renaissance city, followed by Pienza, another renaissance town, with an amazing position with a full view of the
Val d'Orcia.

Various city centers can be reached easily by car, including Rome and Florence (car rental is also available) distancing 1-2 hour trips. Florence (1 hr.),Arezzo
(30 mins.),Perugia (30mins.), Sansepolcro (1 hr.), Siena(1hr.), Assisi(45 mins.), Spoleto (1hr.), Orvieto (1hr.), Rome (2hrs.) and all other small or large centers
on the way.
