Luci sul Trasimeno in Castiglione del Lago
Crossing into Umbria, you will find a completely different Christmas experience.
In Castiglione del Lago, on the shores of Lake Trasimeno, the festive season is marked by Luci sul Trasimeno, an event that has become one of the area’s most distinctive Christmas attractions.
The symbol of the event is the enormous illuminated Christmas Tree on Lake Trasimeno.
As darkness falls, thousands of lights create the outline of a Christmas tree across the waters of the lake, producing a spectacular view from the village of Castiglione del Lago.
During the most recent edition, in addition to the Christmas Tree Trail, the programme included Christmas chalets, Ghiaccio Park, Xmas Garden, the Nativity Trail, light shows and activities for children and families.

Pietraia Living Nativity Scene
Among the Christmas events around Cortona, there is one experience that is very different from traditional markets and large-scale light installations: the Pietraia Living Nativity Scene.
For many years, the village of Pietraia has hosted a live representation of the Nativity, brought to life through the participation of the local community.
On the days when the Living Nativity takes place, the village is transformed into a small Bethlehem.
The route takes visitors through sets, costumed characters and reconstructions of ancient settings. Along the way, you will encounter shepherds, Roman soldiers, craftsmen and workshops recreating traditional trades and scenes from everyday life, before finally reaching the Nativity.
Compared with the larger events in Arezzo and Castiglione del Lago, the Pietraia Living Nativity Scene offers the opportunity to experience a more traditional Christmas, closely connected to local culture and community participation.
